HARRISONBURG — If you like homemade ice cream and are partial to helping provide educational opportunities for people, May Supply Co. is holding an event you won’t want to miss.
The plumbing and water systems supply company is holding its first Ice Cream Challenge from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at its 1775 Erickson Ave. store. The event is being used as a fundraiser for the Massanutten Technical Center Scholarship Fund.
The “ice cream part” of the event involves people making the tasty treat from 5 to 5:45 p.m. Linnette Coaker, May’s marketing director, said members of the local construction industry already are on board to participate, but others are welcome to come to share their creations.
The “challenge” begins at 5:45, when anyone in attendance is allowed to taste the ice cream. They then “vote” for their favorite by dropping money in a jar. The company is providing cones, bowls, spoons, toppings and drinks.
The ice cream that raises the most money will be declared the winner of the challenge.
The idea for the event sprang from a previous gathering May Supply held.
“We had an ice cream social two years ago. Our employees made ice cream and our customers came,” Coaker said. “It was a pretty popular event, and we’ve had people asking us to have something similar again.
The company, she said, would like this to become an annual event.
Members of the Shenandoah Valley Builders Association were invited to the event, Coaker said. MTC’s scholarship fund was selected to receive 100 percent of the proceeds because the SVBA raises money for it with a silent auction at its home show.
The company is not charging an entry fee, but people interested in participating must register by noon Wednesday. Ice cream will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
