HARRISONBURG — The Harrisonburg Fire Department responded to a shrub fire Sunday that threatened multiple dwellings at the Pheasant Run Townhomes Sunday afternoon.

The department received a call at 1:13 p.m. and had a crew on the scene within two minutes, Deputy Fire Chief Ian Bennett said.

An area of bushes about 30 feet by 10 feet between two sections of townhomes on the 400 block of Pheasant Run Circle and the 1700 block of Stratford Drive were burning, Bennett said.

He said the fire was under control within 15 minutes.

The blaze melted about 30-40 sheets of siding on multiple buildings and caused about $1,000 in damage, Bennett said.

Residents evacuated the townhomes before crews arrived and were allowed to return to their homes within 30 minutes, Bennett said.

The cause was under investigation as of Sunday evening.
