Turner Ashby 22, Covington 2: Freshman first baseman Natalie Helmick went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run as Turner Ashby High School defeated Covington 22-2 in a mercy rule-shortened five-inning game Friday at Lord Botetourt High.

Sophomore shortstop Alexa Sheets also had four hits for the Knights (2-0-1).

Broadway 5, R.E. Lee 1: Senior catcher Danyele Smith hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning as Broadway High School defeated R.E. Lee 5-1 in a Valley District game Friday in Broadway.

The Gobblers improved to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in the Valley.

Smith finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored.

Fort Defiance 11, Harrisonburg 1: Pitcher Megan Good hit two home runs and struck out 10 batters to lead Fort Defiance High School over Harrisonburg 11-1 in a five-inning Valley District game Friday.

The Indians improved to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in the Valley. Junior catcher Jasmin Purnell went 2-for-2 to lead the Streaks (0-2, 0-1).
