The Second Annual Shenandoah Valley Adventist Elementary School Golf Tournament is May 6 at Bryce Resort, in Basye. Registration and a free driving range opens at 8 a.m., with tee off at 9 a.m. Format is Captain’s Choice and scramble. There will be door prizes, goody bags and a hot homemade lunch, served at 1 p.m. during an awards presentation and show. Awards include longest drive, putting contest, closest to the pin, worst and best score. The cost is $75 a player or $300 for a team of four.
 Proceeds benefit families in need of tuition financial assistance.
 Last year’s tournament had 84 players, a large turnout for a first -time event, resort staff told organizer Jared Thompson. “We made more than $12,000 gross,” he said. “The majority of the people who played said it was the best tournament they’d ever played in and they’re bringing more people this year.”

Lois Gullman, a physical education teacher and athletic director at Blue Ridge Christian School, competed in the Boston Marathon April 16. Despite temperatures over 85 degrees, she finished in 4 hours and 25 minutes. Gullman is a Broadway resident and often competes in local races.


The Shenandoah Valley Track Club has announced the dates of their annual summer track meets at Eastern Mennonite University. Those dates are June 7 and 21, July 5 and 19, and August 2. Entry fee is $3 for non-members for unlimited events. Members are free. The long jump starts at 6:15 p.m. and the predict-your-time mile at 6:30 p.m. The rest of the events are on a rolling schedule as follows: 60m dash (12 and under), 100m dash, 1500m, 400m, 200m, 800m and a road 5K.
