There’s a new face in the Shenandoah County sheriff’s race.

Even though it’s more than a year away, and official papers have yet to be filed, Strasburg Police Chief Tim Sutherly has announced plans to run as an independent for sheriff next year.

Sheriff Tim Carter, a Republican who is in his third term, plans to seek a fourth term in a office.

The election will be held on Nov. 3, 2015.
