Posted: August 6, 2013

Two people were flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville Saturday night after the car they rode in flipped off the road west of Mount Crawford, according to Virginia State Police.

Around 11:20 p.m., Brad Bowman, 51, of Mount Crawford was driving a 1999 Oldsmobile four-door south around the 3,600 block of Oak Ridge Road when he lost control of the vehicle, overcorrected and went off the roadway to the left before striking an embankment and overturning into a fence, according to VSP.

Melanie Merica, 41, of Monroe, was in the passenger seat, and both she and Bowman were flown to U.Va. Saturday night. The nature and the extent of their injuries was unavailable from police and hospital representatives Monday.

The accident is still under investigation by VSP Trooper C. McCutcheon. No charges have been filed.
