Motorists Urged To Seek Alternate Routes
HARRISONBURG — Much of downtown Harrisonburg will be closed to traffic at various times throughout the day on Thursday to accommodate the city’s Independence Day celebration, Valley Fourth. The city’s Fourth of July festivities will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude at approximately 9:45 p.m.
Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance and city officials are advising motorists to consider alternate routes during those times.
The following streets will be temporarily closed as follows:
8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Access will be given to festival vendors only.
Valley Fourth RUN
8:30 - 11 a.m.
Both lanes of South Main Street will be closed from Grattan Street to Elizabeth Street during this time. From Elizabeth Street to Gay Street, only the left lane will be closed. The left lane of Liberty Street also will be closed during this time.
11 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
After the Valley Fourth RUN, both lanes of South Main Street will remain closed from Grattan Street to Elizabeth Street.
6 - 7 p.m.
During this time, the closure of South Main Street will extend from Grattan Street to Gay Street for the Valley Fourth parade. Main Street will reopen following the parade, at about 7:30 p.m.
9:15 - 10 p.m.
Liberty Street will be closed during this time for the fireworks finale.
