Defendant Faces Involuntary Manslaughter Charge

Posted: March 20, 2014

HARRISONBURG — More than a year after a fatal crash killed a Singers Glen woman, the driver of the car that killed her is likely headed to trial.

Daniel Ringgold, 64, of Harrisonburg, was charged Feb. 1, 2013, with involuntary manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.

During a hearing in Rockingham County Circuit Court on Tuesday, Judge Bruce Albertson scheduled Ringgold’s jury trial for May 20.

On Jan. 22, 2013, Ringgold’s Oldsmobile crossed the center line on Va. 42 and collided with a Pontiac driven by Darlene Piotrwoski, 60. Police say the crash occurred about two miles north of Harrisonburg near Buttermilk Creek Road.

Both were flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, where Piotrwoski died the next day.

Ringgold is free from Rockingham County Jail on a $2,000 bond.
