HARRISONBURG — WVPT will move shop to Martin Luther King, Jr. Way by the end of April, the public television station announced Monday morning.
The station, which currently operates at an entrance to James Madison University at 298 Port Republic Road, will renovate part of the Copperstone Office Complex to include a small studio and space for community events. JMU bought the building on Port Republic in October, and WVPT will continue to lease space for its transmitter at that site.
“As we start something new, we are excited about what we believe will be a fresh approach that will enable us to efficiently provide better services to our local communities, while also remaining the source for the educational, entertaining and popular national programs provided by PBS from our new studio location,” WVPT President and General Manager David Mullins said in a news release. “As we look outward for feedback about what is most important to our region, part of this concept will be to provide a community space for groups to come and meet which will also help us learn more about the community.”
A grand opening is planned for May or June.
