SHENANDOAH COUNTY - A 47-year-old man is scheduled to be in court this week after his arrest earlier this month on charges including the theft of approximately $400 in prescription medications, police say.
Lt. Wes Dellinger, of the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office, said Lyle Garland Ross, 47, of no fixed address, took the medications from an acquaintance in Mount Jackson. It’s not known what kinds of drugs were taken.
The victim reported the theft at about 10:30 p.m. Nov. 1.
Later that night, Dellinger said, police located Ross’s vehicle, which he was reportedly living out of, and pulled him over in Mount Jackson. The prescription medications were discovered in the car. Ross was also found to have a blood alcohol content of .07 percent, resulting in additional charges. The legal BAC limit for motorists in Virginia is .08, but police are authorized to charge impaired drivers with a BAC as low as .06.
Ross was charged with two counts of grand larceny, one count of driving while under the influence and one count of child neglect as there was a child in the vehicle.
Dellinger said social services officials were contacted following the arrest. Police did not release the age of the child.
Ross was released from the Shenandoah County Jail after a bond hearing on Nov. 2. He is scheduled to appear in juvenile and domestic relations court on Thursday and Shenandoah County General District Court the following day.
