First Night Seeks Volunteers For Event

Posted: December 11, 2012

HARRISONBURG — First Night, the city’s New Year’s Eve celebration, seeks volunteers for its event this year.

Festivities took a one-year hiatus in 2010 because of a lack of volunteers before coming back last year. The city first held First Night in 1993.

The family-friendly event runs from 6 p.m. to midnight and highlights the arts in buildings throughout downtown. According to organizers, more than 100 volunteers are needed for setup, assistance with children’s activities and button checking.

Attendees can visit various First Night shows, such as music or comedy routines, if they purchase a button.

About 4,000 people are expected to attend this year’s event. Buttons are available for $6 in advance and $8 on Dec. 31.

Volunteers who work one shift can attend First Night for free.
