East Rock’s Wright All-Region B

HARRISONBURG – East Rockingham High School senior wide receiver John Wright earned a spot on the All-Region B first team after leading the Eagles to the second round of the Division 2 state football playoffs with 900 yards and six touchdowns on 60 catches.

 

Also a threat to score on defense at cornerback and as a kick returner, Wright finished with 11 total touchdowns for East Rock (8-4), which had five total selections. Senior running back Sharif Price made the second team, rushing for 1,709 yards and 23 TDs on 225 carries.

 

Riverheads had the most first-team selections among Shenandoah District teams with six. Senior running back Logan Moore highlighted the list as the Offensive Player of the Year. Moore, also the first-team kick returner, was joined by 6-foot-5, 295-pound junior teammate Mike Herndon as an offensive lineman and linebacker, as well as junior kicker Sam Goodson and senior defensive back Cody Swisher.

 

Wilson Memorial, which went the furthest of any area football team in reaching the Division 2 state semifinals, had five seniors picked to the first team: running back Malik Rucks on offense; defensive end Joey DiGorga, lineman Qualik Rucks, linebacker Ricky Hanger and defensive back Malik Rucks on defense.

 

Other area players to make the All-Region B first team were Central-Woodstock’s Josh Gum (offensive line), Kolton Poston (tight end) and Cody Neal (defensive line); Strasburg’s Rakwon White (running back) and Jonathon Kloosterman (defensive end); and Stonewall Jackson’s Juan Luna (punter).
