19 City Educators Honored For Going ‘Above And Beyond’
Posted: December 6, 2012
HARRISONBURG — The Harrisonburg City School Board recognized 19 teachers and employees Tuesday night for going “above and beyond” the call of duty.
At each of the city’s eight schools, as well as at the central office, staff members select the award recipients based on several criteria, including professionalism, dedication, time spent supporting students and other staff and positive influence at work.
Two staff members were chosen from each school except Harrisonburg High, which had three honorees.
The awards, created last year by the superintendent’s advisory committee, are now given at the end of each semester.
Recipients are: Tammy Atkins, Joe Carico and Terry Murray at Harrisonburg High School; Gwen Baugh and Adrian Zwanzig at Skyline Middle School; Cheryl Craun and Teresa Keesling at Thomas Harrison Middle School; Mary Bendfeldt and Mary Ann Duda at Keister Elementary School; Teri Bosley and Suzanne Miller at Smithland Elementary School; Marissa Cortes and Grace Satterfield at Spotswood Elementary School; Judy Gray and Jill Martorana at Stone Spring Elementary School; Sharon Barrix and Julie King at Waterman Elementary School and Joy Blosser and Gin Lamoy at the central office.
