CHARLOTTESVILLE — Jhalil Mosley — who has verbally committed to play quarterback for James Madison University — scored 19 points and Johuon Shelton had 18 to lead Monticello High School to a 71-69 win over previously undefeated Spotswood in a non-district boys’ basketball game Saturday.

The Mustang improved to 9-5; the Trailblazers fell to 15-1.

Junior guard Tucker McCoy led SHS with 17 points, and senior forward Hyrum Weiler and senior forward Austin Nicely added 16 and 14 points, respectively.

Germantown Academy Girls 66, Spotswood 37: Senior guard Kiernan McCloskey scored 13 points as Germantown Academy handed Spotswood its first loss, 66-37, in the Blue Star Super Sunday Invitational girls’ basketball tournament Sunday at Upper Dublin High School in Fort Washington, Pa.
The Patriots improved to 10-4; the Trailblazers fell to 15-1.

Senior point guard Bailey Williams led SHS with 15 points. She was the only SHS player in double figures against Germantown, a prep girls’ power.

North Cross Boys 72, EMHS 46: Sophomore forward Peter Agba had 18 points to lead North Cross to a 72-46 win over Eastern Mennonite High School in Virginia Independent Conference boys’ basketball game Saturday in Roanoke.

The Raiders improved to 10-3 overall, their conference record was unavailable; the Flames fell to 3-12, 1-6.

Junior guard Aaron Bergman led EMHS with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and junior swingman Daniel Nyce had 15 points and seven rebounds.

ATLANTA — Senior guard Tarik Hislop scored 20 points, and freshman guard Precious Hall set career highs with 18 points and eight rebounds to lead James Madison to a 65-49 win over Georgia State in a Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball game Sunday.

The Dukes improved to 10-7 overall, 4-1 in the CAA; the Panthers fell to 9-7, 1-4.

Junior guard Kirby Burkholder had 17 points (to pass the 700-point mark for her career) and seven rebounds for JMU, which closed the game on a 27-12 run and made 20 of 21 free throws.

EMU Women 70, Virginia Wesleyan 54: Keyla Baltimore, Shakeerah Sykes, Bianca Ygarza and Kala Yoders each scored 11 points to lead  Eastern Mennonite University to a 70-54 win over Virginia Wesleyan in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Saturday in Harrisonburg.

The Royals improved to 11-5 overall, 7-1 in the ODAC; the Marlins fell to 10-7, 5-3.

EMU outscored VWC 38-24 in the second half and shot 50 percent (24-of-48) for the game.

Randolph Men 62, BC 53: Chris Battaglia had 23 points and eight rebounds, and host Randolph College rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat Bridgewater 62-53 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday.

The WildCats improved to 14-2 overall, 6-2 in the ODAC; the Eagles fell to 10-7, 4-4.

Tavis Stapleton had 16 points to lead BC, which shot just 26.7 (8-for-30) in the second half after leading 32-18 at halftime. Ed Reddick had 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Eagles.

The Tigers improved to 15-2 overall, 7-2 in the ODAC; the Royals fell to 10-7, 3-5.

Sydney shot 71.1 percent (32-of-45) for the game and led 56-35 at halftime. EMU, which shot 48.5 percent (32-of-66), outscored the Tigers 59-48 in the second half.

R.J. Sims led EMU with 28 points, and Owen Longacre and David Falk added 14 and 11, respectively.
