Just In Time For The Holidays, Flu Bug Hits

The Amish Cook
Another day, and supper is over. Everyone went their own way, some reading, some writing and some still down with the flu.
Yes, the flu bug hit our family. So far, it has only been son Benjamin and my husband, Joe. I hope the rest of us can stay healthy.
Joe is caught up at work, so he is off until after New Year’s Day. With the flu, it was a good thing he didn’t have to leave since he awoke with a temperature of 102 degrees. And his birthday was last weekend, he is 44 years old.
Earlier in the week, we had an easy supper of eggs, toast and cheese. Verena fried the eggs and Loretta made the toast, so I had a nice break. We have eggs galore around here. After the holidays, I hope to use most to make noodles.
Elizabeth arrived home safe and sound from her trip to Kentucky. It is always nice to know when everyone is home again.
Christmas is fast approaching, and I still have not signed any cards; they seem to go out later each year.
Last Friday was the elementary school Christmas program. Joseph, Lovina and Kevin were very excited, especially since Friday was a half day at school.
I remember, one year on our way home from the program it snowed a lot. It was hard to find our way home as the fresh snow covered the dark roads. The next morning, school was cancelled but the children were disappointed because their class parties were also.
We were surprised by Christmas carolers one night; they were some of the families from our church with a team of horses and a hay wagon to take them from one place to the next.
Benjamin finally woke fever-free; he said he feels much better. It is hard to keep him down when he is sick; he had a 104 degree temperature one morning and was walking around. It doesn’t take much of a fever to put me in bed.
This week, I will close wishing each of you a blessed Christmas, and those of you who travel, may you arrive safely.
Also, I send “get well wishes” to all the people with illnesses, may you have a complete and speedy recovery.
And last, but not least, let us remember the families in Connecticut during this sorrowful time. May God be with them.
God’s blessings to all.
