Ring In The New Year

Where Will You Start 2013?

Posted: December 27, 2012

Whether you’re ready to toast a glass of bubbly, raise a pint or dance the last moments of 2012 away, it’s time to say goodbye to the old. Ring in 2013 at one of these events:

- What lies ahead in 2013 — or behind the masks of revelers at the Union Station masquerade ball?

According to manager Cameron Grant, staff dressed in masquerade garb will offer special food and drinks, and guests may join in the dressing-up. They’ll also feature a silent raffle of items donated from other downtown businesses.

- At the Joshua Wilton House, guests can ring in the New Year with the classic flourish of midnight toasts and watching the ball drop in Times Square.

For $75, feast on a six course dinner, followed by a sparkling wine toast in the lounge at midnight, recommends co-owner Ann Marie Coe. Wine pairing is also available for an additional $30.

Reservations are required; call (540) 434-4464.

- It’s a new year for residents of “Jacktown,” the dynamic duo of Billy Jack’s Wing and Draft Shack and Jack Brown’s Burger and Beer Joint. Beads, festive headgear, staff dressed to impress and shrimp cocktails are in store for patrons, according to owner Aaron Ludwig.

Reserve a table of up to four for $20 and receive a spot for the festivities, including party favors and a 750ml bottle of local cider from Bold Rock. “It’s a dry champagne-like cider that people will freak over,” says Ludwig.

Call (540) 433-1793 for details.

- Dancing with Karen swings into the New Year with mini lessons from 7-8:30 p.m. Dec. 31, followed by an evening of dancing to ballroom, Latin, swing, tango, country and “oldies” until the clock strikes midnight, says Karen Thomas, owner.

Refreshments will be provided. Admission is free for “First Night” pass holders, or $10 separately.

Call (540) 432-1003 for more information.

- The Blue Nile will host “Nile Year’s Eve” beginning at 10 p.m., with DJ Neals Barkley and DJ Fayo. $3 cover.

Call (540) 432-NILE.

- At Beyond, jam to live jazz from 8:30 p.m. to midnight, with a champagne toast to welcome 2013. For details, call (540) 432-0105.

- Down on The Corner, dress up and bring acquaintances old and new to revel in two floors of end-of-the-year festivities. Party favors, food specials and a free champagne toast at midnight.

For more information, call (540) 574-2767.

- Last, but not least, all of downtown will be buzzing when First Night Harrisonburg kicks off at 6 p.m. For $6 in advance or $8 at the event, gain access more than 30 all-age performances in 10 family friendly venues throughout the night. At midnight, a fireworks display will burst Harrisonburg forth into 2013.
