Valley Pro-Lifers To March In D.C.
Posted: January 19, 2013
HARRISONBURG — The Valley Family Forum has an open invitation to anyone interested in participating in next week’s “March for Life” in Washington, D.C.
The march, in its 40th year, attracts thousands of anti-abortion activists from around the country to rally at the National Mall and then walk to the steps of the Supreme Court. The rally begins at noon Friday, followed by the march around 1:30 p.m.
The goal of the event is to sway the Supreme Court into overturning its Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion. The ruling was made Jan. 22, 1973.
The Valley Family Forum, which says it attempts to “renew the spiritual, moral and cultural vision of the Founding Fathers,” will take participants on a chartered bus from Harrisonburg at 8 a.m., said Dean Welty, the organization’s director, in a press release.
Additional stops at New Market and Luray will occur, if needed.
The cost of the trip is $25. The bus will depart from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 154 N. Main St., Harrisonburg.
According to organizers, scheduled speakers for the rally include House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Rick Santorum, a former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania who unsuccessfully ran for the GOP nomination for president last year.
For more information or to reserve a seat on the bus, contact Welty at 438-8966.
