Area Baseball: Staunton Beats Harrisonburg, 2-1

STAUNTON — Frank Grandinette singled in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Zac Fisher and lead Staunton to a 2-1 win over Harrisonburg in a Valley Baseball Legaue game Thursday.

The Braves improved to 18-12; the Turks dropped to 23-9.

Harrisonburg’s Garrett Ford allowed just one run through the first eight innings before allowing Fisher to reach on a single to lead off the ninth.

Staunton’s Max Povse, a 6-foot-8 pitcher from North Carolina-Greensboro, struck out 11 in 8 1/3 innings, but received a no-decision.
