Nation Wins It Again
HARRISONBURG — James Madison freshman guard Andre Nation was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week in men’s basketball for the third time Monday after having a perfect shooting night from the field in one game followed by a game-winning dunk in another.
Nation scored 14 points in the Dukes’ 75-70 home win over Towson on Tuesday, going 5-for-5 from the field. Then, on Saturday, he slammed in the winning basket with less than a second remaining in a 72-71 win at Delaware.
Nation was also the Rookie of the Week on Dec. 10 and Jan. 28.
Also Monday, JMU senior guard Tarik Hislop was named the CAA Player of the Week in women’s basketball after combining for 46 points in leading the Dukes to two road wins.
Hislop scored 22 points and had four assists in Madison’s 68-56 victory at Old Dominion on Tuesday, then had 24 points – including a career-high four 3-pointers – and added another four assists in a 68-60 win at Hofstra on Sunday.
Hislop has now started a school-record 128 straight games.
HHS Gymnast In Five Events
CENTREVILLE – Harrisonburg High School sophomore Brooke Cobb competed in all five events at the Virginia High School League gymnastics state championship meet Saturday, the only representative from Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
Cobb’s best finish was 28th out of 46 in the floor competition. She was also tied for 31st out of 42 in vault; tied for 34th out of 40 in uneven parallel bars; 40th out of 41 in balance beam; and 21st out of 21 in the all-around.
