Flames Move On: D’Agostino’s 21 Pace 56-46 Win
MANASSAS — Junior point guard Lauren D’Agostino scored 21 points to lead Eastern Mennonite High School to a 56-46 win over Seton in the first round of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division 2 girls’ basketball state tournament Tuesday at Seton.
The Flames (20-6) advanced to a quarterfinal against Miller School at 6 p.m. today in Charlottesville.
Junior guard Alex Black added 15 points for EMHS (20-6), which made 24 of 30 free throws on 21 fouls by Seton (20-7).
“We kept our heads, making sure we stayed calm in situations where sometimes we’ve panicked in the past,” EMHS coach Jolene Kratz said. “We played strong. I told them that they’re going to get in our face, and we didn’t back off. That was key. We went strong to the basket and got the fouls called.”
Junior forward Bryn Burgess scored 14 points for Seton.
Miller eliminated EMHS from the Blue Ridge Conference tournament last week, winning 60-26 in the semifinals.
“We feel pretty good. I think we’re excited and want to see what we can do,” Kratz said. “We had a great first half last time we played ’em, and want to play a complete game this time.”
