HHS, TA Take Valley
 
LEXINGTON
– The Harrisonburg High School girls’ indoor track team won the Valley District tournament with 144 points at Virginia Military Institute on Thursday, and Turner Ashby took the boys’ title with a score of 104.

Broadway finished as the runner-up in both, finishing with 98 points in the girls’ meet and 85.5 in the boys’ competition.

First-place finishers for the HHS girls included Rebekah Good in the shot put (33 feet, 9¼ inches), Akia Morris in the 55-meter dash (7.43 seconds) and two relay teams – the 4x800 squad (11:20.18) and 4x200 (1:58.53).

The TA boys were led by individual champions Troy Knott in the 55-meter dash (6.97 seconds) and John Denlinger in the 3200-meter run (10:30.62).

Fort Defiance (83.5) placed third in the boys’ meet, followed by fourth-place Spotswood (82), Waynesboro (46), Harrisonburg (40) and R.E. Lee (19). In the girls’ competition, Spotswood (87) took third, followed by Fort (70), Waynesboro (30), TA (20) and Lee (9).


Covenant Beats EMHS, 53-30

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Senior center David Rogers scored 18 points as Covenant defeated Eastern Mennonite High School 53-30 in a Virginia Independent Conference boys’ basketball game Thursday.

The Eagles improved to 9-8 overall, 5-6 in the VIC; the Flames fell to 5-16, 2-10.

Sophomore guard Chad Lehman led EMHS with 11 points on five field goals.

Moorefield Boys 54, Pendleton 47: Senior guard Adam Snyder scored 23 points as Moorefield High School defeated Pendleton County 54-47 in a Potomac Valley Conference boys’ basketball game Thursday at PCHS.

Junior forward Evan Arrington paced the Wildcats (5-8) with 22 points. Moorefield’s record was not available.
