HARRISONBURG — A Harrisonburg man accused of dousing a vehicle in gasoline and trying to set it on fire in Harrisonburg pleaded guilty Tuesday in Rockingham County Circuit Court.

Francisco Jorge Montalvo, 21, entered guilty pleas to felony attempted arson and felony making verbal threats to burn property.

As part of a plea deal, Judge James Lane sentenced Montalvo to 10 years in prison, with all but three months suspended.

On Oct. 9, Harrisonburg police and firefighters were dispatched to the 600 block of East Market Street around 10:30 p.m. for a disorderly conduct report.

A 911 caller told dispatchers that a man armed with a metal pipe was trying to set her vehicle on fire.

Montalvo was detained at the scene and later charged with the crime by a fire marshal with the Harrisonburg Fire Department.

Investigators say the incident stemmed from an argument earlier in the day.
