Blazer Girls, Knight Boys Win Valley

HARRISONBURG — The Spotswood High School girls’ swept all 12 events to win their seventh straight Valley District swim and dive title and Turner Ashby’s boys’ won their third in a row at the two-day meet that concluded Saturday at James Madison University’s Savage Natatorium.
Sophomore Jessie Arnold broke two meet records for the Blazers (100 butterfly and 100 backstroke). Freshman Julia Sheffer also broke the 100 freestyle record. SHS scored 185 points to easily out-pace second place Turner Ashby (100).
TA’s boys won six of 12 events, including a record setting time in the 200 medley relay by seniors Andrew Moran, Aaron Glick and Jordan Andrews and junior Tanner Clark. The Knights’ 135 points edged Waynesboro (126) and Spotswood (119).
The top six individuals and top three relay teams from each event qualified for the Region III tournament this Friday and Saturday at Savage Natatorium.
