Choice On Nov. 6 Clear For Women: Obama
Posted: September 19, 2012
Somehow your recent editorial on women never mentioned the “gender gap” (“Women Want What?” Sept. 7) Why have women disproportionately voted Democratic for 30 years, and in a Pew survey, supported President Obama over Romney by 58 to 38 percent?
You deride women’s campaigns against being forced to bear rapists’ children or denied contraception access, dismissing such restrictions as “girl issues.” So, why must Republicans enshrine them in platforms and legislation?
Claiming Democrats ignore other women’s concerns shows you missed the powerful convention speech by Lilly Ledbetter, whose battle against discrimination sparked the law President Obama signed that bears her name.
As Ms. Ledbetter noted, working women hourly earn 77 cents per dollar men earn. Millions of children must get by on their mothers’ 77 cents if Republican plans to gut public assistance prevail. Those politicians’ “pro-life” commitment ends once a child starts breathing.
Women’s choice for Nov. 6 is clear.
