Charged With Trying To Take Indecent Liberties With A Minor

HARRISONBURG — A Harrisonburg resident is facing charges in Augusta County of trying to take indecent liberties with children and use of electronic means to solicit a minor.

Investigator Caleb Spence of the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office said Isauro Nicolas Monroy, 29, was arrested Friday at a shopping center where Monroy intended to meet a 14-year-old girl he had been texting.

Police responded to a complaint from the victim’s mother, who said the girl had received an obscene photo and texts requesting sex.

The sheriff’s office then tracked the suspect, later identified as Monroy, through the victim’s cellphone. Posing as the girl, police agreed to meet Monroy, who was arrested at the planned location.

“There’s no connection at all [between perpetrator and victim],” Spence said.

According to police, Monroy claimed in his statement that he had texted a random number and got a response.

Monroy, an illegal immigrant, is being held at Middle River Regional Jail under an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer.
