Seven New Or Expanding Enterprises To Open In City
Posted: February 26, 2013
HARRISONBURG — Downtown Harrisonburg will see a surge of activity in the next year, with at least seven new or expanding businesses moving into the downtown business district, according to Eddie Bumbaugh, executive director of Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance. Bumbaugh noted the influx of new business at HDR’s 10th anniversary reception at Clementine Café Monday evening.
Three of the seven businesses mentioned Monday are new to Harrisonburg, while the other four are expansions of existing enterprises.
The three businesses debuting in Harrisonburg include:
BlueTique, a women’s boutique will be moving into the former Glen’s Fair Price Store on North Main Street. BlueTique has two stores in Kentucky and one in Ohio.
New Day Holistic Health Counseling, an entirely new business, will open March 1 in the Merle Norman building on South Liberty Street.
Walkabout Outfitters will sell outdoor clothing and gear below Lenhart Obenshain Attorneys at Law on North Main Street. The business has one location in Lexington and two in Roanoke.
The businesses that will be expanded or adapted include:
That’s the Spot Massage and Juice Lounge will open on East Market Street.
Strite’s Donuts, which operates a trailer on Tuesdays and Saturdays on East Market Street, will sign a lease to bring a Liberty gas station into the vacant building near its location. Strite’s will also move into the building to serve doughnuts daily.
The Harrisonburg Hometown Division of Kline May Realty will be adding a satellite office at the former Wilson’s Jewelers on South Main Street.
And a past employee of The Polished Lady — a former Harrisonburg nail salon and beauty care store — will revive the business, which will share space with Rocktown Choppers on South Main Street.
HDR also handed out several awards on Monday night, including its Partner of the Year honor to the city of Harrisonburg.
“I would not change this working relationship with anyone in the state,” Bumbaugh said.
HDR presented the volunteer award to the HDR board.
