DAYTON — A fire swept through an outbuilding at a home on Pike Church Road in Dayton this morning, but firefighters got the blaze under control before it spread to the property’s main house or other structures. It’s not yet clear what sparked the blaze or what was in the building. No injuries were reported.

The fire began at about 10:30 a.m. and crews from Dayton and Rockingham County were on the scene in a matter of minutes. While they were able to get the fire under control fairly quickly, firefighters were still on the scene as of 12:30 this afternoon.

Several of the firefighters on scene had been up for as much as 36 hours straight, having come straight from Wednesday night’s blaze at RR Donnelly just outside the city. Fire crews remained on the scene of that fire through the night to douse any hotspots and to investigate its cause.

The Daily News-Record will update this story as more details become available and will have a complete report in Friday’s print and web editions.
