Delaware On JMU’s Schedule

HARRISONBURG — James Madison is resuming its rivalry with Delaware.

JMU released its 2013 football schedule Sunday, and Madison will play the Blue Hens for the first time since 2010. The Dukes open Colonial Athletic Association play at Delaware on Sept. 28.

Division I-A Akron — which went 1-11 this year — highlights the non-conference schedule, which includes Central Connecticut State and Saint Francis. The Dukes open the season Aug. 31 at home against CCSU, travel to Akron on Sept. 7 and then host Saint Francis on Sept. 14 in what may or may not be the non-conference finale.

The Dukes have two bye weeks — Sept. 21 and Oct. 19 — because of an extra weekend between Labor Day and Thanksgiving in 2013 and 2014. As a result, I-AA teams are permitted to schedule a 12th game. Typically, I-AA teams are limited to 11 games.

Coach Mickey Matthews said JMU is in the market for a 12th game.
