Don’t Scrap Gas Tax
Posted: January 28, 2013
The governor wants to do away with the gasoline tax and raise the sales tax. That means that those of us who drive pay less for our roads, and those of us who don’t drive pay more for our roads! And thousands of tourists wouldn’t pay either!
Of course, we want good roads. Our gasoline tax is one of the lowest in the Lower 48. Last year, a letter R stated that we ought to raise the gasoline tax by 10 cents a gallon.
The governor’s proposal to increase the sales tax at least wants to pay for roads now rather than borrow more money. He knows that we can’t live on “hot air” in the commonwealth!
