For 'Skins Fans, Revelry Continues

The advent of the New Year will bring something to the Washington, D.C.-area that has not happened since the first ten days of the 21st century — and no, we don’t mean Congress will actually agree on a meaningful way to address our runaway government spending.

Yes, the Washington Redskins will host a home playoff game Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. The Redskins finished their improbable run to the playoffs with a victory Sunday night over the Dallas Cowboys at FedEx field.

The win marked their seventh in a row to end the regular season and clinch the NFC East championship. The team rode the backs of two sensational rookies, Robert Griffin III and Alfred Morris, to the victory. This dynamic duo played a large part in the team’s run to glory in the second half of the season.

Next up for Washington is a familiar playoff foe. The Seattle Seahawks, perhaps the hottest team in the NFL, ended the Redskins’ run in their only two playoff appearances since last winning the NFC East during the 1999 season.

But, in those two games, Washington had to travel cross country to meet the Seahawks on their home field. This time, those tables are turned. This matchup will be the final game of the four NFL playoff contests set for the upcoming weekend.

So, with bowl season still in full swing through Monday and the NFL playoffs set to begin Saturday, football fans should certainly enjoy a happy first week of the New Year.

And Redskin fans will hope to extend those joyous tidings well past this Sunday.
