ERHS Beating The Snow

HARRISONBURG — East Rockingham High School girls’ basketball coach Paul Comer prides himself on preparing for his opponent. During state championship week, he’s also preparing for snow.
With heavy snow predicted in the Shenandoah Valley on Wednesday, Comer’s Eagles will travel to Richmond today, a day ahead of schedule, in advance of their state semifinal against Castlewood at 11 a.m. Thursday at Virginia Commonwealth University.
“We would have gone down on Wednesday,” Comer said by phone after practice Monday. “We’re going to go a day early because of the impending snow.”
In Richmond, Comer said his team will check out a mall and go to other state semifinal games at the Siegel Center. He’ll also try to find a place for his team to practice, although he said it’s still unclear where.
With much of Virginia anticipating winter weather Wednesday, there’s always a chance snow will prompt officials to postpone games. A Virginia High School League spokeswoman said Monday there were not yet any contingency plans.
