FBI Seeking Help In Abuse Case
Info Sought On Persons Of Interest, New Market B’Ball T-Shirt
Posted: February 20, 2013
HARRISONBURG — The FBI is searching for two “persons of interest” in a child abuse case that may have a connection to New Market, according to the federal agency. Evidence pulled from images discovered in the sexual exploitation case includes a yellow T-shirt with the words “New Market Basketball” surrounding an outline of a basketball, a statement from the FBI says.
Also visible in one of the images released by the bureau is a home with what appears to be yellow siding and an aboveground swimming pool.
FBI agents are unsure whether the shirt is related to a town or school with the name New Market, or which state it may have originated from. Towns or schools named New Market are located in Iowa, Indiana, Maryland, Alabama, Tennessee, Minnesota, Ohio and North Carolina, as well as in Virginia, according to the release.
There are no public schools with the “New Market” name in the Virginia New Market, and Shenandoah County, where New Market is located, runs all the public schools within its borders.
“All of the [organized] basketball goes through the Shenandoah [County] Parks and Recreation to my knowledge,” added Sgt. Chris Rinker of the New Market Police Department. Initial images of the child being photographed in sexually explicit positions were first discovered by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in February of 2003, a release from the FBI stated.
“And they continued to show up periodically,” on different child pornography forums, said Dee Rybiski, media coordinator for the FBI’s Richmond Division.
The first individual being sought in the case is described as a white male, between the ages of 25 and 35, with dark hair, brown eyes and glasses. The other is a white male, between the ages of 35 and 45, with dark hair and brown eyes, according to the release.
Images of the men accompanied the FBI release, although it’s not clear when the photographs were taken. The release asks the media’s help in states with a “New Market” town or school to get the word out about the investigation in hopes someone might recognize the shirt’s design, the men being sought or the home.
Anyone with information on the case or who recognizes any of the images should contact the Richmond FBI office at (804) 261-1044, submit a tip online at https://tips.fbi.gov / or call the FBI’s toll-free tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
