Post-Election Challenge: Forty Days Of Kindness

Posted: December 12, 2012

One week after the election, the mudslinging hadn’t stopped, pitting side against side and people against people.

A 2.6 percent difference in the popular vote shows a divided nation in a dead heat between ideologies.

The campaign was disheartening and denigrating to those running and to the country as a whole.

I had hoped that we as Americans would be above that. We should be lifting each other up, not tearing each other down.

The election is done and cannot be reversed. Our only choice is to either work together or divide and fall.

Are we to be our own undoing? I propose a new campaign.

For the next 40 days, I challenge everyone in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County to do three to five kind acts a day for others. Open the door, offer encouragement, hold back an angry word, be patient. It is a free challenge open to all.

I hope we can start something big and restore America to what it can be. We can start by being kind.
