TA Rallies Past Millbrook

BRIDGEWATER — Senior forward Justin Layman scored 10 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, including a clinching free throw, as Turner Ashby High School rallied for a 49-48 win over Millbrook in a non-district boys’ basketball game Saturday.

The Knights, who snapped an 0-for-19 skid against Millbrook, improved to 6-7; the Pioneers fell to 7-5.

TA junior guard Shane Brown added 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter. Layman gave the Knights a four-point cushion at the line before a meaningless 3-pointer by Millbrook at the buzzer.

Senior guard Rze Culbreath led the Pioneers with 12 points.

Stonewall Jackson Boys 44, EMHS 34: Junior guard Colton Harlow scored 10 points to lead Stonewall Jackson High School past Eastern Mennonite 44-34 in a non-district boys’ basketball game Saturday in Harrisonburg.

Junior guard Aaron Bergman paced EMHS (2-7) with seven points.

Spotswood Girls 59, Woodgrove 44: Senior guard Bailey Williams had 19 points, seven assists and seven rebounds to lead Spotswood High School past Woodgrove 59-44 in a non-district girls’ basketball game Saturday in Purcellville.

The Trailblazers improved to 12-0; the Wolverines, who reached the Division 3 state semifinals last season, fell to 10-2.

Junior forward Tayler Dodson had 13 points and 10 rebounds for SHS. Sophomore guard Elizabeth Dofflemyer added 14 and eight. Senior guard Brooke Basinger paced Woodgrove with 20 points.

EMHS Girls 44, Grace Christian 26: Junior guard Alex Black scored 18 points, making four 3-pointers, as Eastern Mennonite High School defeated Grace Christian 44-26 in a non-conference girls’ basketball game Saturday in Harrisonburg.

The Flames improved to 6-3; GC’s record was not available. Junior guard Lauren D’Agostino added 13 points for EMHS.
