Blazers Win Finale, 74-50
 
PENN LAIRD – Senior forward Hyrum Weiler scored 26 points to lead Spotswood High School to a 74-50 win over Fort Defiance in a Valley District boys’ basketball game Friday in Penn Laird.

The Trailblazers finished the regular season 21-1 overall and 12-0 in district play; the Indians dropped to 13-8, 8-5. 
Junior guard Tucker McCoy and senior forward Austin Nicely added 12 apiece for the Blazers, who host Waynesboro in the first round of the district tournament Monday at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Senior guard Trevor Lam led Fort with 13 points.

R.E. Lee Boys 38, Turner Ashby 37: Shai Matthews scored 10 points to lead R.E. Lee High School to a 38-37 win over Turner Ashby in a Valley District boys’ basketball game Friday in Staunton.

The Leemen improved to 11-11 overall, 7-5 in the district; the Knights fell to 12-10, 5-7.

Junior guard Shane Brown scored 18 points to lead TA, which got the ball back with two seconds to play but missed a half-court shot that would have won it.

TA hosts Broadway on Monday in the first round of the Valley Division 4 tournament.

Page County Boys 83, Buffalo Gap 37: Senior power forward Tanner Dofflemyer scored 21 points to lead Page County High School to an 83-37 win over Buffalo Gap in a Shenandoah District tournament quarterfinals game Friday in Shenandoah.

The top-seeded Panthers will play East Rockingham at Eastern Mennonite University on Thursday.


Spotswood Girls 59, Fort Defiance 39: Senior guard Bailey Williams had 22 points, seven assists and seven rebounds to lead Spotswood High School to a 59-39 win over Fort Defiance in a Valley District girls’ basketball game Friday at Fort.

The Trailblazers improved to 21-1 overall and finished 12-0 in the district; the Indians dropped to 17-5, 8-4.
Sophomore guard Elizabeth Dofflemyer had 11 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Blazers, who will host R.E. Lee at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Junior forward Devon Byrd led Fort with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
