Knights Topple Giants

WAYNESBORO – Senior guard Justin Layman scored 17 points to lead Turner Ashby High School to a 53-42 win over Waynesboro in a Valley District boys’ basketball game Friday.

The Knights won their fourth straight and improved to 9-7 overall, 3-4 in the district; the Little Giants fell 8-9, 2-5.

Junior guard Taylor Corbin added 16 points for TA, and junior guard Shane Brown had 15.

Dequan Barber led WHS with 16 points.

Page Boys 94, Stuarts Draft 81: Junior guard Tim Brown scored a career-high 34 points and had 11 rebounds to lead Page County High School to a 94-81 win over Stuarts Draft in a Shenandoah District boys’ basketball game Friday in Shenandoah.

The Panthers improved to 14-3 overall, 9-0 in the district; the Cougars fell to 6-9, 5-4.

Senior forward Kol Shuler also had a double-double for Page, with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward Tanner Dofflemyer had 21 points and seven assists for the Panthers, while sophomore guard Adam Campbell had 16 points and sophomore guard Jake McKay had 10.

Waynesboro Girls 32, Turner Ashby 30: Brie Moore hit a short jumper in the final seconds to give Waynesboro High School the lead in a 32-30 win over Turner Ashby in a Valley District girls’ basketball game Friday in Bridgewater.

The Little Giants improved to 5-12 overall, 4-3 in the district; the Knights fell to 1-12, 1-6.

Sophomore forward Savannah Witt led TA with 11 points, and junior guard Miranda Dean had eight.
Moore led WHS with 12 points.

Freshman forward Kate Gordon led Page with 12 points, and junior guard Morgan Andrews added 10.

Buffalo Gap Girls 43, Stonewall Jackson 38: Junior center Abby Erskine scored a game-high 16 points to lead Buffalo Gap High School to a 43-38 win over Stonewall Jackson in a Shenandoah District girls’ basketball game Friday night at Gap.

The Bison improved to 3-14 overall, 1-8 in the Shenandoah; the Generals fell to 4-12, 2-7.

Senior guard Michaela Koontz and senior forward Erin Goodier paced Stonewall with double-doubles. Koontz had 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Goodier finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
