Higher Tax Would End Cigarette Trafficking
Posted: December 12, 2012
In reference to lawmakers considering harsher laws concerning cigarette smuggling (“Panel Endorses Stiffer Penalties For Cigarette Trafficking,” Dec. 6), I ask, why? You are trying to enforce the unenforceable.
If “experts” are so concerned, raise the taxes on cigarettes in Virginia to equal those of the high tax states. The revenue could be used for many useful programs and smuggling would stop. I guess that makes too much sense.
We need good laws, not more bad ones that don’t work.
