Founders Used Bible As Moral Compass

What is freedom? Most believe it is license to do as one pleases. But on second thought, I can’t murder just because I am able. Neither would I jump off a high rise and commit suicide, because I am not morally free to do that either. Most seem to think that liberty is license to indulge in any lust without hindrance.

Is this the thinking that drove our last national election to be so evenly divided?

Our founders believed in “ordered liberty.” You are free to do only what you have a moral right to do. All government began with “self-government,” and the founders used the Bible as the moral compass. Even so, they like us, are at best just men. But they were men of the book, as can be told by being the most quoted book in all of their writings.

Alexis de Tocqueville said, “Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.”
