Library To Host Antique Appraisal Event

Advance Tickets Go On Sale Jan. 21 For ‘Roadshow’-Styled Fundraiser For MRL

HARRISONBURG — Tickets will soon be up for grabs for the area’s own “Antiques Roadshow”-themed fundraiser.

In collaboration with Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates and James McHone Jewelry, the Massanutten Regional Library is hosting “An Antiques Appraisal,” where residents can bring in heirlooms for a price assessment, or watch others have an item appraised.

Money raised will benefit the MRL system, which encompasses seven branches in Harrisonburg and in Rockingham and Page counties.

While the actual appraisals will happen at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 12 in the Jeffrey S. Evans and Associates Offices in Mount Crawford, tickets for a guaranteed appraisal go on sale 10 a.m. Jan. 21.

Tickets can be purchased by calling MRL’s main branch in downtown Harrisonburg at 434-4475, ext. 135. Twenty tickets will be given to the first callers — 10 for jewelry and 10 for antiques. Each ticket costs $25.

Those without advance tickets who want an item appraised will be admitted at the door for $15, though spots are not guaranteed.

“We are anticipating a large number of participants,” said Kim Haines, development director for MRL. “Our evening will begin with doors opening at 6 p.m. The appraisal event itself will begin at 6:30 and continue until 8:30 p.m. Time constraints will limit the number of appraisals.”

Those who attend the event can watch other appraisals throughout the two-hour window via video equipment.

Representatives from Jeffrey S. Evans will appraise antiques and Tina Shull of James McHone Jewelry will appraise jewelry.
