Posted: April 26, 2014
The Page County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fire that destroyed a single-story wooden home and displaced a resident near Stanley on Saturday morning.
The fire at 3425 Lucas Hollow Road, about five miles south of Stanley, started at about 7 a.m., according to Stanley Fire Chief Terry Pettit. The cause is unknown.
Five units and 25 firefighters from Stanley Fire Department responded to the home, owned and occupied by Jeffrey Foster. They were on the scene for three hours.
“[Foster] told us he had just woke up and smelled smoke and when he came out of his bedroom he could hear the sound of the smoke alarm going off and his living room was on fire,” Pettit said.
Foster escaped unharmed but the house was a total loss. Pettit said it would cost an estimated $100,000 to replace the house, which was uninsured.
The American Red Cross is assisting Foster.
