New Market Farmers Market In The Works

Posted: July 12, 2013

Organizers of a new farmers market in New Market are looking for vendors.

Brad and Krista Foster, owners of North Mountain Vineyards, are planning to start a market in the parking lot of their wine shop in New Market.

North Mountain Vineyards is located near Toms Brook, but the Fosters rented the New Market building off Old Cross Road about three years ago to sell their wines.

“My No. 1 issue at this point is trying to find vendors,” said Brad Foster, whose special-use permit for the market was approved in early June.

So far the market has two vendors secured, a baker and coffee roaster Cabin Creek Roasters, both Edinburg based.

He said with any luck the market will open for its first day the afternoon of July 19.

The aim, he said, is to coax some of the weekend traffic off Interstate 81 to the market.

“About 70 percent of the wine that we sell is sold to people traveling up and down the interstate,” Foster said. “We thought we could capture that tourist crowd and they could appreciate some fresh and local stuff. …  It won’t be your average farmers market crowd.”

Anyone interested in becoming a vendor may contact the Fosters at (540) 436-9463.
