HARRISONBURG — Two people have been killed on Virginia roads over the last 20 hours due to storm-related crashes.

The first crash occurred Wednesday afternoon in Halifax County and claimed a Nathalie man. The second crash occurred Thursday morning in Loudoun County and killed a contract worker for the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Motorists should still stay off the roads unless it’s an emergency, VSP spokeswoman Corrine Geller said in a statement this afternoon.

Since the storm began Wednesday afternoon, the state police have responded to 3,348 calls for service, 995 crashes and 904 disabled vehicles.

In the Culpeper District, which includes Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, state police have responded to 80 crashes and 103 disabled vehicles. Most of those crashes have been minor and no serious injuries have been reported.
