NEW: Upset In Shenandoah County Supes Race

Shruntz Ousts Nine-Term Incumbent

Posted: November 5, 2013

In a surprising upset, an independent candidate for the District 5 seat on the Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors appears to have ousted nine-term incumbent Dennis Morris.

Unofficial results show Marsha Shruntz, a retired school bus driver from Strasburg, beating the current vice chairman of the board by 52 votes. She received 51.2 percent of the 2089 votes cast. Morris received 48.8 percent.

Neither Shruntz nor Morris could be reached for comment.

Shruntz campaigned with Cindy Bailey, who won the supervisor’s seat in District 4. Both women based their campaigns on budget-cutting, greater transparency and more communication between residents and supervisors.
