Obama Continues Failed Fiscal, Monetary Policies

Becky Brenneman may think she is doing quite well, but is she taking QE1 and QE2 into consideration (“Dow Shows Obama’s Policies Are Working,” Sept. 28)?

Paper currency as a measure of value has departed from all of the world currencies. Using a commodity as a standard, she will find little or no growth. Our currency is becoming worthless faster than ever. In 1969, a silver quarter bought a gallon of gasoline. Today, the value of a silver quarter still buys a gallon of gasoline. The “dollar” value of the stock market doesn’t have much meaning.

A truer way to measure is to compare its silver value in ounces in Jan 2009 and the same measure today. Where is the progress? This has been going on for years, especially since 1971.
