Royals Beat Guilford

 

HARRISONBURG – Junior forward Kala Yoders had 12 points and five rebounds to help Eastern Mennonite University beat Guilford 54-47 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Friday at Yoder Arena in a battle for first place in the conference.

 

The Royals, who won their 10th straight game and have a one-game lead over Guilford with two games remaining, improved to 17-5 overall, 13-1 in the ODAC; the Quakers, who came in on a 14-game winning streak, dropped to 19-4, 12-2.

 

Junior guard Steph Rheinheimer also had 12 points for EMU, all on 3-pointers, where she went 4-of-9.

Gabby Oglesby led Guilford with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

 

The Royals also have a head-to-head tiebreaker over Guilford, meaning they can clinch the top seed in next week’s ODAC tournament with a win at Bridgewater on Thursday.
 

 

BC Women 72, Randolph-Macon 55: Sophomore forward Shannon Thorne had 14 points and 12 rebounds off the bench to propel Bridgewater College to a 72-55 win over Randolph-Macon in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Saturday at Nininger Hall.

 

The Eagles, who have won five of six, improved to 13-9 overall, 10-4 in the ODAC; the Yellow Jackets dropped to 5-18, 4-10.

 

Junior guard Holly Morgan scored 17 points for BC, and Randolph-Macon’s Sarah Parsons also had 17.
 

 

Hampden-Sydney Men 95, BC 49: Harrison George scored 20 points as Hampden-Sydney routed Bridgewater College 95-49 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at H-SC.

 

The Tigers, who are ranked No. 17 in Division III, improved to 21-2 overall, 13-1 in the ODAC; the Eagles, who played their fourth straight game without leading scorer Ronnie Thomas (broken wrist), dropped to 13-10, 7-7.

 

Sophomore guard Aaron Adams scored 10 points for BC, which trailed 51-16 at the half.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 14-9 overall, 9-5 in the ODAC; the Royals, who have lost two straight heading into a game against Bridgewater on Wednesday, fell to 13-10, 6-8.

 

Junior guard R.J. Sims had 15 points for EMU, senior forward Andrew Thorne added 14, and sophomore forward David Falk had 11 points and nine rebounds.
