HARRISONBURG — A Churchville man has been charged and a Staunton man is being sought by police for their alleged involvement in a number of fraudulent purchases made in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County using stolen credit cards.

Michael Andrew Webb, 20, was served Friday at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona, where he was being held for a Waynesboro credit card fraud conviction and other felony and misdemeanor charges, according to jail officials.

Webb was charged by the Harrisonburg Police Department with 42 additional felony counts, including 21 of conspiracy to commit a felony, six of credit card larceny, two of grand larceny, two of credit card fraud and two of identity theft.

Police say he and Joshua Russell Rankin, 35, broke into two vehicles in Harrisonburg in October, stole credit cards and used them to make purchases at the Walmarts on Burgess Road in the city and on John Wayland Highway in Rockingham County.

Other fraudulent purchases using the stolen credit cards were made online, according to police.

Lt. Chris Rush of the Harrisonburg Police Department said tips from the public led police to Webb and Rankin.

“We had information from citizens who contacted us and also officers from other jurisdictions who had dealings with these individuals before,” Rush said.

Anyone with information about Rankin is asked to contact the Harrisonburg Police Department.
