HARRISONBURG — Tanner Chase Rohrer probably didn’t care much about the timing, but as it turns out, the 10 days he waited to be born past his due date ended up distinguishing him from the other newborns at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Tanner was the first baby to be born at RMH in 2013.

He entered the world at 8:23 a.m. Tuesday at 19 inches and 8 pounds, about 10 days after his Dec. 22 due date, to John and Andrea Rohrer of Rockingham County.

“We got there this morning and we thought maybe we could be the first one, but we weren’t sure,” John Rohrer said. “When it actually happened, it was cool and exciting.”

Tanner is the first child for the couple, who have been married since September 2011.

John Rohrer said he and his wife may have more children, but for now their focus is on Tanner.

Though his son was a little late, John Rohrer said both the pregnancy and birth went smoothly.

“It all went really, really well,” he said, “so I can’t complain too much about anything.”
