Family Not At Home, No One Injured
Posted: January 10, 2013
A fire northeast of Stanley on Wednesday afternoon burned a mobile home but caused no injuries, according to a statement from Fire Chief Terry Pettit.
Petit said fire was seen coming from two rooms of the single-story modular home, located at 134 Montana Lane, when firefighters arrived at 2:19 p.m.
The home’s residents, Cindi Comer and Eric Hensley, and their three teenage children, were not at home at the time of the fire.
Pettit stated that the home suffered extensive damage and will be considered a total loss.
Comer’s parents, Leroy and Kay Comer, own the home and have insurance on the structure, but Cindi Comer and Hensley had not insured any of the contents, said Pettit, who estimated the loss at around $125,000.
The family will be staying with relatives until arrangements are made.
Pettit stated that the fire started in a bathroom area around a ceiling fan and is being investigated as accidental.
Seven units and 20 firefighters from the Stanley Fire Department responded to the blaze and were assisted by a tanker and crew from the Luray Fire Department. The Stanley Rescue Squad and Page County EMS also responded.
Although no injuries were reported, a pet cat died in the blaze. Firefighters were able to rescue a pet rabbit in a rear bedroom.
It took crews about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control but they remained on the scene for three hours to make sure the fire was out.
