State Cops Respond To Hundreds Of Wrecks

RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia State Police say they have responded to more than 200 motor vehicle crashes over an eight-hour period and have received hundreds of other calls during a winter storm pounding the state.
The crashes occurred since midnight Wednesday, when a mix of rain, sleet and snow began. Of those 200-plus crashes, 178 have involved property damage. No fatalities have been reported.
Besides the crashes, dispatchers have fielded 839 calls for service and troopers have assisted 135 motorists.
The March snowstorm is primarily hitting a region stretching from central Virginia to the northern and western portions of the state, where snow is piling up quickly. A foot or more is forecast.
Statewide, 112,000 customers are without power.
