HARRISONBURG — Federal Trade Commission representatives will discuss consumer protection for local immigrants Friday night at Blessed Sacrament Church.

Lawyers Kathleen Daffan and Tracey Thomas will address consumer laws that protect immigrants and answer any questions.

The event is free and runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament, 154 N. Main St., Harrisonburg.

According to a news release, simultaneous interpretation in Spanish, Russian and Arabic will be provided.

The Fairfield Center, a mediation organization in Harrisonburg, and the Harrisonburg International Festival sponsor the event. Topics will include using a bank or credit union, sending money overseas and scams to look out for such as identity theft, the release says.

Business people and service providers who work with the immigrant population are also invited to attend. For the providers, a happy hour at Blue Nile Restaurant, 181 N. Main St., is set for 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Friday.
